Announcement

As required by Article 17 of the Portuguese Securities Code, Sonae Capital, SGPS, SA informs that, on 8 October 2012, it has been informed by Santander Asset Management – Sociedade Gestora de Fundos de Investimento Mobiliários, SA as follows (translation from the Portuguese original):

“We hereby inform about the increase in the qualified shareholding, under the terms of article 16 /2 a) of the Portuguese Securities Code, approved by Decree Law nr. 486/99, from 13 November, and republished by Decree Law nr. 357-A/2007, from 31 October.

Accordingly, we inform that:

a) Securities investment funds managed by Santander Asset Management hold, as from 30 December 2011, 5,699,843 shares, corresponding to 2.28% of the share capital, above the 2% qualified shareholding threshold, distributed as follows:
Santander Acções Portugal 5,214,974 shares corresponding to 2.09% of the share capital
Santander PPA 484,869 shares corresponding to 0.19% of the share capital.

b) The increase in the qualified shareholding is reported to 30 December 2011.

c) The increase in the qualified shareholding derived from the acquisition, in the stock exchange market, of 1,900,000 shares by Fundo Santander Acções Portugal and 157,032 shares by Fundo Santander PPA.
This shareholding should have been reported in 2 January 2012 but was not timely reported due to an operational error. As at the present date, the qualified shareholding remains above 2.0%.”
